University of Illinois at Springfield women’s basketball coach Roy Gilmore has announced the signing of three players for the class of 2012.

Rachael Follmer, Erin Glogovsky and Alex Blair have each signed a letter of intent to play basketball for the UIS Prairie Stars next season.

SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Prairie Stars women's softball team, following one of their best seasons in their short five year history, has accomplished another first for the program.  Four of their student-athletes were recognized for their athletic play during the season and seven were recognized for their academic accomplishments.

Brianne Moeller (Nashville, Illinois) and Jessica Wolff (Brighton, Illinois) were named to the American Midwest Conference First Team and JoAnna Eddy (Bethalto, Illinois) and Nicole McAfee (Pawnee, Illinois) were named Honorable Mention All-Conference and seven members of the softball team were recognized as Academic All-Conference Team members.

The 2008 American Midwest Conference Softball Tournament is being held at the University of Illinois at Springfield softball complex.  The listing of all the games, with results and boxscores are listed below.

Admission to the conference tournament is $5.00 for adults of all ages and $2.00 for high school and college students with ID.  The ticket booth will open 2 hours before the first scheduled game and no spectators will be admitted prior to that time.

(Lake Smithville, MO) - The Prairie Stars moved from 11th to eighth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region V Tournament and captured fourth place in the American Midwest Conference Tournament (AMC), held at the same time.

"We had horrible weather conditions today but we actually played better," said Head Coach Jay Davis.  "The storm front came through about 9:30 a.m. this morning with high winds and the temperature dropped 25 degrees in about two minutes.  At 6:00 a.m. when we teed off, the temperature was about 70 degrees.  By the time we finished, the temperature was 46 degrees with 30 mile per hour winds."

(Smithville Lake, MO) - The UIS men's golf team finds themselves 62 shots off the lead in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region V Gofl Tournament.

Lindenwood is the current leader of the tournament with a score of 595 and William Woods is in second place with a score of 597.  The Prairie Stars posted a team score of 657 at the end of the first day.

Prairie Stars Season Ends Against McKendree http://goprairiestars.athleticsite.com/article.asp?articleID=692

SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Bearcats of McKendree University stayed alive in the 2008 American Midwest Conference Tournament with a 1-0 win over the Prairie Stars.  The loss eliminates UIS from the tournament and ends their season with a 15-20 overall record.

Both teams presented opportunities to bust the game wide open, but both failed to bring in runners in scoring positions.  UIS left seven runners on the bases while McKendree stranded eight.  The two teams mirrored each other in terms of the number of hits and runners left on base almost every inning - until the seventh.

Softball Tops Missouri Baptist In AMC Tourney Opener, Falls to William Woods http://goprairiestars.athleticsite.com/article.asp?articleID=691

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Kristan Delafeld hit a two-run home run to help lead the UIS Prairie Stars softball team to a 2-0 victory over Missouri Baptist University in the opening round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament.

UIS (15-18) fell to the Owls of William Woods University (26-17) in a 7-5 loss in the second game of the day for both teams. William Woods was a 9-0 winner over Harris-Stowe State University (6-23) in its first game of the tournament.

In the first game of the tournament for the Prairie Stars, Brianne Moeller was solid on the mound, going seven innings giving up one run on four hits. She walked one and struck out three.

SPRINGFIELD, IL - In the final American Midwest Conference double header of the regular season, the Prairie Stars followed their pattern of splitting the games with all but one conference opponent this season.  UIS captured the first game against Hannibal-LaGrange College 5-1, but fell 4-3 in the nightcap.

In the first game, the Prairie Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Ashley Shafer reached first on a throwing error by the thirdbaseman and landed on second base.  Natalie Bertucci was given first base after being hit by a pitch and was followed by Brianne Moeller.  Moeller drilled a shot to the centerfield fence for a double with two RBI's.  Nicole McAfee then smacked a double of her own to score Moeller for the third run of the inning.

22 Innings and Two Losses to Missouri Baptist http://goprairiestars.athleticsite.com/article.asp?articleID=688

SPRINGFIELD, IL - In the long awaited American Midwest Conference doubleheader, it was the Spartans of Missouri Baptist edging out the Prairie Stars in two of the longest games in UIS school history.  In the first game, Missouri Baptist edged out UIS 1-0 in a 12 inning game.  In the nightcap, the Spartans took a 5-4 win in 10 innings.  The losses puts UIS at 13-17 on the season and 5-7 in conference play.

The first game of the doubleheader was purely a pitcher's duel between Prairie Star Brianne Moeller and Spartan Lindsay Parker.  Moeller went 11.1 innings, allowing only one run on five hits and striking out two batters.  Parker went 12 innings, allowing seven hits and striking out 12 batters.
